Trusting yourself with Melody Wilding

Do you trust your intuition when it comes to your own marketing?  If you don't (yet), you could. Lately I’ve been teaching my coaching clients and the members of my Simplest Marketing Program how to use their “marketing intuition” – it’s that spidey sense that tells you not only when to follow up on a prospect who keeps putting you off, but also what to say and how assertive to be. This spidey sense is not about emotion – in fact it’s the antidote to those emotions that can steer you in the absolute wrong direction. And it’s the opposite of that elusive follow up formula everyone seems to be looking for, but which I’ve never seen work as well as simply listening to and then trusting yourself.  Marketing intuition is about asking yourself the question, “Given everything I know (and everything I don’t know) about this particular situation, what makes the most sense?” Because here’s the thing: it’s different for every situation. That’s why formulas don’t work. But in orde...

How to Make a Lasting Impression on Clients

If you want to make a lasting impression on potential clients , should you… a. Spruce up your LinkedIn profile… b. Send a targeted, heartfelt note offering to help… c. Meet them in person. All of the above can help you get noticed, but when it comes to leaving a lasting impression… In-person networking is by far your best bet. At a time when trust is becoming scarce… Meeting someone in person is the only way you can show up as a real, live human - without being mistaken for AI. Plus, when you’re standing in front of them, they can’t ignore you!  Armed with the right questions, you can take a short cut to the conversation about their needs and their pain points. And there’s no better way to “feel out” the kind of connection you have with someone, and what your working relationship might be like. In the Simplest Marketing Plan , I recommend going to at least one in-person networking event a month. Not sure where to meet potential clients who need what you do? Here’s my favo...

Finding clients or a job – which is easier? with Maggie Mistal

Is it easier to find clients than to find a job these days? That’s just one of the questions I debated with Maggie Mistal , an intuitive career coach and also a podcaster. Her podcast is called, Making a Living with Maggie and she’s developed a very interesting framework that beautifully complements my Simplest Marketing Plan. So we are doing a podcast swap – up first is me interviewing her on many timely topics, including whether AI will replace us.  So listen here (and below) and learn. Maggie and I have a lot in common, which surprised me, since I’ve been so gung ho on self employment for so long. But we did agree on many points. So I hope you learned as much as I did. Pitching that Isn’t Salesy with Liz Heflin

When I got a pitch from today’s guest in my LinkedIn messages, I ignored it. I don’t mind when people pitch me, as long as it’s relevant to me, which it was. In fact, it was an excellent pitch with a lot of value... ...but what she was offering wasn’t of interest and I didn’t have time to focus on it. Then, a month or so later, she resent the pitch via email, which I appreciated, because I know that once is not nearly enough if you’re trying to get someone’s attention. This time, I did respond – not to what she was offering, but to ask if I could use her pitch as an excellent example. I wanted to show the members in my Simplest Marketing Plan Plus program what a good pitch looks like.  She was so gracious and immediately said yes. But when I asked my members what they thought of it, most said things like: "Too direct." "Too bold!" "Too salesy." I disagreed. It had everything a good pitch needed – the problem was me, the recipient -- not th...

Threads Surpasses 350 Million Monthly Active Users

Meta continues to gain grown with its Threads platform, with the app now boasting more than 350 million monthly active users. Threads is Meta’s latest social media platform, an effort by the company to take advantage of user dissatisfaction with X (formerly Twitter). The app has quickly gained ground, surpassing 200 million users in mid-2024 , growing to 320 million users as Q4 2024. According to TechCrunch , Meta has gained another 30 million users in Q1 2025, with Threads now surpassing 350 million monthly users. Interestingly, while 350 million is an impressive number—especially for one of the newest social media platforms—it’s still barely more than half of X’s user base. X CEO Linda Yaccarino recently revealed that X has nearly 600 million monthly active users. What’s more, it seems X has managed to stem the user losses it experienced in the wake of Musk’s purchase of the platform. According to Digiday , X reported 586 million monthly u...
